Excursion to Sierra Nevada from Granada

Sierra Nevada

To immerse oneself in nature after less than an hour's drive, leaving the city behind, is a pleasure that many should experience. From the centre of Granada, in the middle of Mariana Pineda square, we set off on an excursion to the Sierra Nevada, to enter one of the most dazzling landscapes in Europe, accompanied by a guide specialised in the area. The physical and mental transfer is guaranteed, as our guide will not only venture behind the mountains or take you to know and enjoy its vegetation and flora, but he will also tell you about all the curiosities that make this place so interesting and captivating, such as its relationship with the Alps and the Himalayas.

This activity of moderate hiking at an altitude of 2,600 metres, will not be an exception to the enjoyment, as the landscape and what belongs to it will envelop you with its sounds of high mountain water, waterfalls, as well as the silence of the lagoons and the snow that we are able to appreciate. Discovering the Sierra Nevada is the fascination of what Granada has to offer beyond its busy streets, it is an escape for the senses. It will take you through the breathtaking mountains and valleys, offering a unique and exciting experience for nature lovers as well as adventure seekers.

After leaving the city centre and arriving in the Sierra Nevada, if you do the route during the winter months and even up to May, the snow will accompany us all the way. We will visit the heart of the Sierra where we will find the Monument to the Virgen de las Nieves, located at the top of the Veleta peak. It is a statue of the Virgin Mary that stands at an altitude of more than 3,000 metres above sea level, making it one of the highest religious images in Europe.

We will walk along the Duke’s Path which is a route that runs through the natural landscapes of the Sierra de Huétor. It owes its name to the Duke of San Pedro de Galino, to whom it pays tribute, as it was he who held these lands in his power during the 17th century.

The warm months are no less of an option than a surprising hiking route, the open-air activities with the vegetation that can be seen here will not fail to fascinate you, as the panoramic views overflow the landscape.
