Federico García Lorca

Federico García Lorca Tour
VILLAGES:

A special tour to know and understand the environment that inspired the poetry and theater of Lorca.

The houses inhabited by the Lorca family are located in the middle of the countryside of Granada, such as Fuente Vaqueros and Valderrubio, towns that affected the personality of the poet’s work.

The populism so characteristic of its characters and the natural landscape of the countryside of Granada are a sign of Lorca´s identity.

Therefore it is essential to visit:

1. Federico García Lorca House-Museum. Fuente Vaqueros.

House where Lorca was born in 1898. A typical farmhouse where the poet lived during his early years.
Tour through its most intimate spaces: the dining room, the kitchen, the bedrooms and the patio, helping to understand a little more the typology of the houses presented in his works.
Entrance: 1’80 € per person. Includes guided tour by the museum guides themselves. The interpretation of other guides is not allowed inside.
Morning: 10.00, 11.00, 12.00 and 13.00.
Afternoon: 5pm and 6pm.

2. Centro de Estudios Lorquianos (Lorca’s Center of Studies). Fuente Vaqueros.

It is an extension of the García Lorca Center whose interest and objective is the conservation and availability of the documentary and bibliographic heritage of the poet as well as the promotion and support of research projects about Lorca and his time.
Currently the center exhibits in one of its romos some of the drawings that Federico made during his lifetime.
Free entrance.

3. Federico García Lorca House-Museum. Valderrubio.

A work house where Lorca spent his childhood and summers until his parents bought the Huerta de San Vicente in Granada.
It is the most unknown of all and yet the one that most marked the life of the poet, since it was the inspiration to write “The House of Bernarda Alba”.
Sunday, closed.

4. Lorca common grave. Road Víznar-Alfacar.

On August 16, 1936, Federico García Lorca was transferred from Granada to Víznar to be shot. A group of fascists ended his life at some point on the road between Víznar and Alfacar, near the famous gully of Víznar, the greatest symbol of Franco’s repression along with Guernica.

5. Lorca’s landscapes. Countryside of Granada.

In our way from Fuente Vaqueros to Valderrubio and from Valderrubio to Víznar, we will visit a natural landscape practically identical to the one enjoyed by Lorca in his lifetime.
The landscape of the countryside of Granada has cultural and natural values that speak for themselves. Its roots come from the orchards of the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada, an excellent agricultural fertility, preserves a landscape of poplar, flax and tobacco and the vestiges of the industrialization of sugar beet and hemp, products that supported the economic development of the Lorca family.

NOTE: This route must be done by car, therefore, if more than 3 participants wish to do it, it will be necessary to check the availability of vehicles.
