Nerja_y_Figiliana

Our guided visit to Nerja and Frigiliana from Granada takes you to the Axarquia mountains to discover the town of Frigiliana. A living vestige of the moorish architecturewith narrow cobbled streets flanked by low houses with whitewashed walls. Where the smell of the flowers that decorate the walls and the saltpetre of the nearby Mediterranean accompany the visitor.

The municipality of Frigiliana is a real treat for the senses and the visit to this town culminates with a panoramic view of the remains of the Arab fortress of Lizar, from the 9th century CE.

Following a visit to one of the last strongholds of the Moors in the Iberian Peninsulathe visitors continue on their way to Maroa municipality parish of Nerja and which has one of the most outstanding caves in Andalusia, both for its geomorphological and palaeontological value. The Cave of Nerja.

A huge complex with a surface area of more than 35,000 square metres, of which about 9,000 square metres can be explored in the so-called Tourist Galleries. The cave museum preserves upper Palaeolithic prehistoric remains and the recent prehistory with impressive cave paintings at least 42,000 years old. It is considered to be the cave with the most prehistoric artistic and symbolic manifestations in the world.

The cave also stands out geologically because of its enormous chambers filled with speleothems: gours, stalactites, stalagmites, stalagmites and columns which give the spaces a singular natural majesty.

After leaving the cave-museum of Nerjathe visitors will then continue their march to the coastal town of Nerjawhere you can enjoy the Andalusian gastronomy at its best and contemplate the views from the European Balcony. Name attributed to Alfonso XII and which names a huge platform on the cliff that once was the Lower Castle of Nerja and the central point from which the municipality developed during the 16th century.
